We’ve watched the promo for this multi-episode blitz, and it looks spectacular. But can we learn anything more from giving it a closer look? Here’s a frame-by-frame analysis of the promo. Take a look at the new clues we’ve managed to uncover!
Scene 2b: Finn and Rachel chat by the lockers. Rachel is on a mission. “We have to win it. There’s really no other alternative.” With her dream of attending NYADA seemingly crushed, we can see how important winning Nationals would be to her! (Sidebar: Notice our use of the word “seemingly.”)

Scene 2c: There it is: The Nationals stage! The lights, the golden curtains, the sparkling chandeliers — it looks beautiful. Plus, we’re pretty sure those are the New Directions dancing up there. The bright red dresses definitely match! Based on song spoilers, this could very well be the girls’ performance of Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory.”
Yes: Glee. Lady Gaga. Nationals. Sounds epic, right?
Scene 3a: Cute girl moment. All dressed up in their pretty red dresses, Brittany (Heather Morris), Santana, and Quinn(Dianna Agron) have a sweet girl moment backstage at Nationals. Santana: “Start together. End together.” Brittany: “Just the way it should be.”
Scene 3c: It just keeps getting weirder! Now Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) wielding a blowtorch of some sort. Sparks are flying. Elsewhere, a fight’s breaking out on campus. Puck(Mark Salling) just punched a hockey player!
Scene 3d: The announcer speaks. “And they’ll do anything to win!” Sue stands in front of the choir room. “And I’ve ordered 18 little people.” Really, was that her big plan? We were expecting something a little different...
Scene 3e: Will has a brilliant plan to win Nationals. “It’s called the human centipede,” he explains. Sounds tricky. And dangerous! We sure hope nobody falls and injures their head.
Blaine: “Is this even legal?”
Scene 4a: Speak of falling... Walking through a local mall, Tina suddenly bites it and crashes face-first into a giant fountain. That’s got to hurt. And now Puck is wearing a blue and black dress with an tacky blond wig? Color us confused.
Scene 4b: Now we’re back in Chicago. The New Directions huddle backstage. They let out an enthusiastic cheer. “A night of surprises and guest judges.”
Scene 5a: Another look at the Lady Gaga performance. The New Directions dance back and forth across the stage, and there’s no mistaking Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory.” With a stellar routine like that, they’re sure to win Nationals.
