DWTS’ Mark Ballas Gives Update on Katherine Jenkins’ Back Injury: “She Can Walk”

In a gut-wrenching moment on the Dancing With the Stars Season 14 Semifinals last night (Season 14, Week 9: Performance), former front-runner Katherine Jenkins seemed to fall awkwardly during her very last dance move of the night. During her second dance with pro partner Mark Ballas, the Samba, she froze and began crying and apologizing. So how is she doing now?

Last night, Mark tweeted to fans that Katherine had hurt her back in the middle of the dance, and host Tom Bergeron assured fans that a doctor would look over any potential injury. But we couldn’t help but worry about her condition, especially after Katherine and Mark landed at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Later that night, Mark gave more details on her progress to Zap2It: "I think she's okay because she can walk. Usually when you do something to you bones or like, I've had muscle spasms and dislocations and ribs, and once you do something bad, that's it. You can't get up.” He continued, “But she got up pretty quick. She's out there dusting it off. She's not being a baby. She's tough."

Mark also expressed concern that their minor slip-up would affect votes. “Hopefully they liked what we did, because it was feeling great up until there.” Regarding tonight’s Season 14, Week 9: Results show, Mark said, “She should be making a stab at the final. She should be taking a shot at the mirror ball. But I don't know how it's going to go now."

Hopefully the fans were actually inspired to vote even more after seeing Katherine in pain, and not the other way around.

Watch the next new episode of DWTS tonight, May 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
