How Are Things Going at Scott Disick’s RYU Restaurant?
Last month, the entire Kardashian crew — including Kim’s rumored new love, Kanye West — showed up for the opening of Scott Disick’s much-anticipated Japanese restaurant, RYU. Located in New York City’s Meatpacking District, the eatery opened to much buzz and was opened with the help of celeb restaurateurs Chris Reda and Jesse Camac.
"I have always wanted to open my own place…and [the Meatpacking District] seemed like the hottest place to be right now," Kourtney Kardashian’s longtime boyfriend told Us Weekly at RYU’s opening. "There didn't seem to be any Japanese restaurants in the area so I wanted to fill that spot."
So how’s the ambitious venture going nearly 3 weeks later? It might depend on who you ask.
Scott, who recommends the eatery’s spicy tuna and shrimp chips, seems optimistic, despite admitting that the restaurant business is “way more difficult than I realized.”
Those difficulties might be more apparent to diners than Scott realizes. Notoriously hard-to-please Yelpers have had some less-than-kind words about RYU. Although the restaurant only has three reviews on the site so far, it’s earned a lukewarm rating of two stars.
“The entire experience was just bad. Everything was completely undercooked — from the slimy prawns, to the bleeding $60 steak, to the gushy salmon. It was incredibly expensive (after tax/tip and two drinks, it was a $300 bill) for the worlds smallest portions,” one particularly-miffed reviewer complained. “If you plan on going, reconsider.”
Another reviewer is more positive, saying, RYU can “hold its own amongst the big sushi players in this city.”
As mixed as the early reviews sound, it’s common for a new restaurant to go through some hiccups when they first open. It sounds like RYU has promise!
