Simon Cowell Calls The Voice a “Copy” of His Music Shows
With success comes jealousy, and former American Idol judge Simon Cowell seems to be green with envy at The Voice’s high ratings and growing following.
On BBC Radio 4's Today program, the creator of The X Factorand America’s Got Talent said that The Voice is a cheap replica of his shows.
"I see a lot of shows trying to rip us off and you can't do that. If you try and rip somebody off it always looks like a bad copy," Cowell said.
Simon went on to question the entire premise of The Voice saying, "That show puzzles me because it starts off by saying, 'right it's all about the voice,' so my first thought is why is this not on radio. What's the point of looking at them?”
To combat The Voice’s success, Simon said his shows have a plan.
"OK. They are beating us,” Simon said. “We've got to make our shows better. And that's all we did. We just tried our best to make them better."
After competing with American Idol this season, The Voice’s fall cycle will go head-to-head with Simon’s X Factor.
