Dancing With the Stars Season 14 Finals Sneak Peek: Freestyles, Judges & More!
Dancing With the StarsSeason 14 has been a good egg. Yeah, there were some off moments — heated arguments, insane judges’ scores, shocking eliminations — but overall it was a season of great dancing, great partnerships and great sex appeal. And it ain’t over yet!
The Week 10 Finals are coming up next week, which means the final three couples are currently rehearsing their all-important Freestyle routines, along with two other dances — although it sounds like only the top two finalists will perform a third dance on Tuesday.
In the past, couples have sometimes had to do “redemption” dances — re-dancing a past routine they didn’t quite perfect — or their favorite routines, or a final unlearned dance. Last year they even had the top two finalists face off in an instant dance. It’s not completely clear what’s going on this season, but the judges look to be involved again. Carrie Ann Inabatweeted Wednesday about plans to work with DWTS couples: “Packing - - Tmrw, working with the dancers and celebs - then off to NY for some non-stop action....Then back home to pass out on Saturday!” So maybe there’s one “judges’ choice” dance this season?
The top three couples are staying pretty tight-lipped at this point, but here are some Freestyle details they shared with On the Red Carpet.
Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd The Freestyle is often the make-or-break dance, so what do they have up their sleeves? "It's going to be very surprising," Peta said. "It's going to be filled with lots of tricks, lots of lifts. I don’t want to give too much away, but you're going to see Donald in a totally different light and he's going to surprise everybody."
They refuse to give song or costume hints. Will he be wearing Packers colors? Maybe, maybe not.
Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas Mark has been to the Finals four times before and won twice. What's he going to do in his Freestyle to help Katherine win?
"Blow it out the box," he said. "Just try and blow it out the box. We've got three dances, it's a lot."
One dance is on Tuesday, Katherine noted, although Mark added that they might not get to do the one on Tuesday, because it depends on if they make the final two or get eliminated.
What's his Freestyle for Katherine going to be like? "This one's very different for me, put it that way,” he said. “You're not going to see it and go — it's not going to be like 'I know what Mark's going to do' like maybe you could have in the past."
William Levy & Cheryl Burke Cheryl wasn't around for the On the Red Carpet interview Tuesday night and William explained why when asked about their plans for the Freestyle.
"I have no idea," he admitted. "I've never been in this competition before. I don't even know what the Freestyle is. All I know is Cheryl had to go work on it right now. So hopefully she makes it good."
At that point, William didn't know their song, whether they’d have kicks or lifts or what. William just said he knows he'll have a lot of fun 'cause it's a Freestyle and Cheryl likes to do different things. "I know she's not going to have a boring routine."
What gives him an advantage heading into the finals? "I don't know. Right now I'm not even thinking about that. I'm just trying to give myself the whole time this week, you know, into my routine and nail it down. That's all I need to think about right now. The rest leave it up to the fans and God, you know?"
