“Props” and “Nationals”: Glee Season 3, Episodes 20 and 21’s Best and Worst Song Performances — Do You Agree?
Glee manages to pack an insane number of songs into each episode, which means there will always be a few standouts... along with the inevitable dud or two. We've narrowed the performances from Season 3, Episode 20, “Props,” and Episode 21, “Nationals,” down to the very best and the coulda-done-without. Do you agree with our picks?
Best Performance of the Night: “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Rachel
So much for choking on stage! Rachel (Lea Michele) was back to her old, sensational self, delivering one of her all-time greatest performances and making us say “wow” about a thousand times.
The epic two-hour long evening had other killer performances, like “We Are the Champions” and “Edge of Glory,” but this one takes the cake (much like the cake for Schue in the teachers’ lounge). And we’re not surprised that Rachel got a standing ovation, since she made us want to stand up and clap in front of our TVs (which is an embarrassing thing to do).
Worst Performance of the Night: “I Won’t Give Up” by Rachel
Can’t win ‘em all — eh, Rachel? Granted, we came close to putting Puck(Mark Salling) and Beiste’s (Dot-Marie Jones) version of Taylor Swift’s “Mean” here, but that performance was just too adorable. To be fair, it’s hard to choose a “worst” song from these two episodes, since they were all phenomenal, and Rachel definitely elevated this song beyond its original version.
But this Jason Mraz cover wasn’t Rachel’s greatest performance, and it certainly doesn’t help that the song itself is so sleepy and sappy. Rachel has just set the bar too darn high for herself!
