Dancing With The Stars

Julianne Hough May Replace Keira Knightley in New Nicholas Sparks Film Adaptation

The roles keep rolling in for two-time Dancing With the Stars champ and current big-time movie star Julianne Hough!

First she had a small role in Burlesque, followed by the female lead in Footloose, next playing the lead in the upcoming film Rock of Ages, and perhaps after that, the lead opposite Transformers actor Josh Duhamel in the film Safe Haven.

According to Variety, Julianne is in negotiations to play Katie Feldman, a young woman with a mysterious past who seeks her own safe haven in a small North Carolina town. Keira Knightley was previously rumored to be taking the role, but it sounds like she’s out and Julianne is potentially in. The film is based on the novel Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Dear John, The Last Song, A Walk To Remember).

The film is being directed by Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat, The Shipping News, Dear John) and shooting is expected to take place this summer in Southport, N.C., where the story is set. Safe Haven is scheduled to be released Feb. 8, 2013.

It’s too early to congratulate Julianne — the deal isn’t done yet — but it’s great to see she’s now up for the same roles as Keira Knightley, and possibly poised to have her own Notebook-style romance on the big screen.

Just look out, Ryan Seacrest — you’re in serious danger of being the less famous half of this couple!

Watch the next new episode of DWTS on Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
