American Idol

Pia Toscano Talks About Those Stefano Langone Romance Rumors and Who She Wants to Win American Idol — Exclusive!

As we’re getting ready to crown the next American Idol, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with last year’s hopeful Pia Toscano at the Race to Erase MS event in Los Angeles, to get her take on who should win this year, how she feels about Jennifer Lopez potentially leaving the show, and what Stefano Langone really meant when he said the “two were close” while on the reality show.

Wetpaint Entertainment: So have you been watching Idol?
Pia Toscano: Of course I have! Religiously.

Who are you rooting for?
I’m rooting for Jessica [Sanchez], my little girl. I love her.

What do you think she brings to the competition?
Everything. She’s my little Beyonce. I’ve never heard her sing off-key or off-pitch. She’s literally spot-on every single week. She looks so comfortable, which is so important. I think she’s a phenomenal performer. She’s got that style, and that’s so important. She’s got the entire package.

Why do you think the girls have such a hard time winning Idol?
I think it’s because a lot of the girls love the boys and rightfully so, because they’re so talented, especially Phillip [Phillips]. He’s incredible. But I think Jessica has a great shot because she’s a phenomenal singer, she’s a young girl. I mean, you need a role model and I think she’d be a great role model.

You’ve probably been asked this a lot, but what are your thoughts on Jennifer Lopez possibly leaving Idol?
I don’t want my Jennifer Lopez to leave Idol! I love her. I think she’s so great. She was one of my favorites last year. She gave so much to me, advice that I take with me every single day and I just don’t want her to go. And she looks amazing every week, fabulous. I love seeing everything she comes out in, she’s a trendsetter.

What are your current projects?
I’m finishing up my album right now and I’m singing the national anthem for the L.A. Kings. They’ve been doing phenomenal. I’m so proud of them.

And what’s your album like?
My album is just a whole entire story of what I’ve been going through, the struggles. You come from a show like American Idol and you still have to fight for what you want and you can’t just say, “You know what, I was on American Idol” and just sit back and relax and think everything’s going to be handed to you. You have to really work hard for what you want and what you believe in. So I mean, it’s the whole story of what I’ve been going through.

So are you single? Are you dating in Hollywood?
I’m dating my album right now. [Laughs] It’s been a lot to deal with.

I guess Stefano [Langone] from your season had something to say —
Oh, yeah.

Can you comment on that?
Stefano’s a funny kid. He’s very talented. He should just be talking about his single right now! He was one of my best friends on the show. To see him — no comment really on that. I think that was a little childish of him to put out there, yeah.

Well, are you going to the Idol finale?
I am, actually.

Are you doing any on-camera work?
I am. I’m doing some correspondent work for so I’m excited about that. It’s something I’ve never done before so it’s very exciting.
