Whatever Happened to Haley Joel Osment? The Sixth Sense Star Then and Now (PHOTOS)
Remember Haley Joel Osment, the cute little kid who saw dead people? He’s changed. Just a bit.
After making it mega-big in 1999’s suspense-fest The Sixth Sense, for which he earned a 2000 Supporting Actor Oscar nomination at the ripe old age of 11, Haley went on to star in movies like Pay It Forward (opposite Kevin Spacey), Artificial Intelligence, and Secondhand Lions (opposite Michael Caine).
Nine years after his last major big-screen role (in Secondhand Lions), Haley is set to play the young Daisy Dukes-wearing boyfriend of an absentee dad in the upcoming comedy Sassy Pants. (Watch the trailer below.)
So what happened in those intervening years, as Haley was presumably undergoing a slightly awkward adolescence? He (wisely) did some voiceover work, appeared in a couple small films, attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and played a heroin addict in a short-lived 2008 Broadway revival of David Mamet’s American Buffalo. He also got slapped with a DUI and possession of marijuana after a July 2006 drunk-driving accident, in which he hit a brick mailbox and flipped his car. Whoops.
And if you can’t tell, he’s gained a few pounds. You can’t win ‘em all.
Now 24, Haley has also signed on to star in I’ll Follow You Down, a sci-fi mystery slated for later this year. Perhaps this new character will also see dead people?
