You Need to Watch These Summer 2012 TV Shows: It’s Guilty Pleasure Time!
Summer means two things: sunny days and lightweight TV. It is not a time for serious shows, people!
In the interest of fulfilling your basic need for guilty pleasure fare (we won’t judge if you don’t), we’ve rounded up some of the most ridiculous — and ridiculously fun — series set to air this June, July, and August.
Prepare to veg out and watch some seriously addictive drama unfold.
Sister Wives: This real-life Big Love tells the story of your typical American family: a husband, his four wives, and their 17 children. In Season 3, which premiered Sunday, May 13 on TLC, the sprawling clan settles in Vegas and deals with issues of jealousy. Because — this may come as a shock — polygamy makes sister wives kinda resent one another.
The Catalina: The CW riffs on Jersey Shore’s Miami season with this new reality series centered on the wild staff of a South Beach hotel. Expect characters, inappropriate work relationships, and copious drinking when it premieres Tuesday, May 29 at 8/7c.
The Real Housewives of New York City: Three new women — Aviva Drescher, Carole Radziwill, and Heather Thomson — join the RHoNY cast for Season 5. In the premiere, which airs Monday, June 4 at 9/8c on Bravo, Aviva learns that a couple of her new “friends” have slept with her ex-husband. And that’s just the opening act of a season-long string of drunken moments, accusations, high-pitched yelling, and wine-themed insults. [WATCH THE PREVIEW]
Kendra on Top: Kendra Wilkinson’s latest reality romp kicks off Tuesday, June 5 at 10/9c on WE tv. If her previous efforts —The Girls Next Door and Kendra— are any indication, Kendra on Top is sure to be a classy, tasteful affair.
Love in the Wild: The title says it all. Single men and women look for love while enduring bizarre physical challenges in the tropical forests, caves, beaches, and mountains of the Dominican Republic. It’s exotic and erotic. (Or just absurdly cheesy.) Season 2 of this jungle dating competition premieres Thursday, June 7 at 8/7c on NBC — with Jenny McCarthy as its new host.
Bridezillas: Watch brides get really mean/kinda psycho when Season 9 of this reality staple premieres Sunday, June 10 at 10/9c on WE tv.
The Glass House: Fourteen contestants live together and compete for $250,000 — Big Brother-style — in this new interactive game show. The major twist is that us viewers get to pull the strings: We determine which contestants are sent home and which players get to stay by campaigning for our favorites online and on social networks. We also get the opportunity to decide what the contestants wear and eat, among other things. Our God complex is gonna get out of control when Season 1 premieres Monday, June 18 at 10/9c on ABC.
Beverly Hills Nannies: What’s better than watching Beverly Hills housewives bring the drama? Watching their employees navigate the moneyed world of America’s most luxurious zip code while caring for some of its most spoiled children. Get ready for some over-the-top demands when this new docuseries premieres Wednesday, July 11 at 9/8c on ABC Family.
Big Brother: Yes, it’s still on! Season 14 of this Real World-esque competition series kicks off Thursday, July 12 at 9/8c on CBS.
The Real L Word:The L World comes to life when the bicoastal (L.A. and NYC) third season premieres Thursday, July 12 at 10/9c on Showtime.
Bachelor Pad: Bachelorand Bachelorettealums reunite for six weeks of drunken competition and musical beds on this quintessential summer series. Season 3, which premieres Monday, July 23 at 8/7c on ABC, comes with a twist: One lucky fan will join the alcohol-soaked fun in the sun!
Married to Jonas: OMG, our lives will soon be complete. Starting Sunday, August 19 at 10/9c on E!, we finally find out what it’s like to be married to a Jonas Brother. This new reality show follows Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle as they try to balance suburban life and superstardom. (JoBro problems.)
