Castle Star Stana Katic to Play Rock and Roll Singer in CBGB Movie
Get ready to see Detective Kate Beckett in a whole new light, Castle fans — 34-year-old actress Stana Katic has landed a role in the upcoming feature film project CBGB, which will present an inside look at New York City's famed (and now defunct) punk rock nightclub.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stana will play Genya Ravan, a music producer who was the lead singer of Goldie and the Gingerbreads, an all-female rock band that rose to fame in the mid-1960s. Today, the band is still considered the first all-female act to sign with a major record label.
Stana will star alongside Avatar actor Joel David Moore, who is set to play Joey Ramone, lead vocalist of 1970s punk band The Ramones, and Alan Rickman, who will play Hilly Kristal, CBGB's founder.
Other actors who have signed on are Malin Akerman, Rupert Grint, Juliana Acosta, and Josh Zuckerman, among others. The movie will have a large supporting cast of actors portraying real singers, musicians, and artists who were around during the height of the club's craze.
CBGB begins filming on June 25 in Savannah, Ga. and will wrap up in New York City.
