Pretty Little Liars Season 3 Spoiler: Shay Mitchell Hints at “Higher ‘A’ Character”

One of the biggest questions we had after watching the Pretty Little Liars Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”) had to do with how Maya’s (Bianca Lawson) death and Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) death might be related. On our recent visit to the Pretty Little Liars set, we caught up with Shay Mitchell (Emily), who gave us a few cryptic clues about a possible connection, and who Emily suspects killed two of her best friends.

Shay told reporters that once Season 3 begins, as far as the Little Liars know, Maya’s murder “has to do with ‘A’. Just like Alison’s murder did.” One obvious possibility is that Mona (Janel Parrish) acted alone and killed both Maya and Alison. Shay continued, “In Emily’s mind, and the way the character’s being played, is that she does think … ‘A’ is the one that killed her. So she is not too happy with that.”

Then again, even though Shay says, “I haven’t cancelled out Mona at all,” she also hints at someone on the “A” team that is even more powerful and dangerous than Mona. “If there is a higher ‘A’ character that’s even controlling her, then that could be crazy,” Shay says.

Someone controlling Mona? That would be one frightening puppeteer! Who can you think of in Rosewood that would be persuasive and tough enough to order Mona around?

With additional reporting by Carita Rizzo.

Catch an all-new Pretty Little Liars when Season 3 premieres on Tuesday, June 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
