The Real Reason Why G.I. Joe 2 Was Delayed? Channing Tatum!

Remember last week when it was reported that G.I. Joe: Retaliation was being delayed so that the studio could convert it to 3D? Turns out that was a big ol' lie! No wonder Hollywood gets a reputation for being phony.

Deadline is reporting that the real reason the film's release has been delayed is so that the studio can beef up Channing Tatum's role, which was quite minor in the original version of the sequel. The studio "vows" to remedy this soon with reshoots.

Why the sudden change of heart over Channing Tatum's screentime? Well, back when production started on the film, Channing was a far less proven box-office commodity, as 2011's little-seen The Eagle would attest. (Seriously, did anyone see this movie?)

However, it's been a different story since then, with Channing having starred in two blockbusters already this year The Vow and 21 Jump Street and one more on the horizon, with next month's Magic Mike.

Also, G.I Joe 2 had apparently been testing poorly with audiences in advance screenings, and the scenes that got the best feedback were those that featured Channing Tatum and The Rock as buddies. So you can expect that the studio will be cooking up plenty more of those.

And sure, it's a bummer that we'll have to wait nine months for the birth of G.I. Joe 2. But who would rather see Channing Tatum wearing clothes when we can see him go without them in Magic Mike? Sounds like an easy choice to us.
