Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence Win Best Male and Female at 2012 MTV Movie Awards
The odds were ever in their favor and they pulled it off.
The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson won Best Female and Best Male, respectively, Sunday at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.
Josh was up first, winning over Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ryan Gosling. Accepting the award, Josh said "Oh my God! I've wanted to hold a golden popcorn since I was like 4 years old," he said, looking at his popcorn statue. "This is incredible. It's insane, too, because every single one of those actors I admire and want to be. So to even be up here, it's blowing my mind right now, honestly. It's kind of crazy. Thank you guys so much."
He thanked The Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, the producers and the fans. "You guys are the best fans in the world,” he shouted over the crowd. “We've been all over the world and we've seen all of you everywhere and you're crazy and passionate and make our jobs amazing."
Jennifer won her award over Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Kristen Wiig and Rooney Mara.
Twilight star Kristen Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Chris Hemsworth (brother of Hunger Games co-star Liam Hemsworth) presented the Best Female award and Kristen had to announce that Jen wasn't there to accept.
"She couldn't be here, which is such a bummer — what?" Kristen said, in her awkward, kind of nervous-tic way. "Sorry, yeah, but we caught up with her in Prague where she's shooting her latest film and this is what she had to say, which is awesome."
"Thank you, MTV, and all the fans for this award,” Jennifer said, via video. “I want to thank Suzanne Collins for creating such an iconic, powerful character in Katniss Everdeen. It's been an absolute honor to portray her and have audiences around the world embrace this movie. Thank you." Then she held up her popcorn trophy. "I can't eat this."
