We're especially concerned about Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Mark (Eric Dane), as they seemed to have the most serious injuries. If someone else does die, we have a bad feeling it's one of them. But which one? Here are the reasons we think either might die — and the reasons Shonda will probably (hopefully!) keep them alive anyway.
Why she might die: Many of the reasons we thought she might die in the finale still hold true. It would still be ironic given her insistence that Callie (Sara Ramirez) not leave her. Indeed, it would be even more heartbreakingly ironic now that we know Callie is so excited to have her come home. It would also potentially open up a reason for Alex (Justin Chambers) to stay in Seattle. It would also shake up Callie and Mark's storyline in potentially fascinating ways, as they have to work together to raise Sophia and overcome their mutual losses.
Why she probably won't: Calzona is one of the few happy, functional relationships on this show, and we have a feeling Grey's is going to need a little happiness to make up for all the Lexie-related angst next season. It would seem needlessly cruel to kill Arizona and shatter Callie's life on top of everything else that is going down.
Why he might die: Physically, he was in the worst shape at the end of the finale. Plus, with Lexie gone, he clearly is having a hard time convincing himself to keep fighting to live. Dealing with the loss of their child's father would give Calzona something to do without being as devastating for them as killing Lexie. And the loss of Mark might motivate Seattle Grace-Mercy West to give Jackson (Jesse Williams) a better offer to make him stay. Plus, there's something beautifully tragic about the idea of Lexie and Mark both dying in the same crash.
Why he probably won't: He's one of the characters Lexie's death would impact the most; it seems unlikely that Shonda & Co. would kill him off instead of taking the opportunity to explore how he deals with a broken heart, instead.
Hopefully Shonda is just being a tease, and everyone (except maybe the pilot) lives. But if someone does die, who do you think it will be? Let us know in our poll, and voice your opinion in the comments below!
Miss Grey’s? Us too. Luckily the show will return to Thursdays at 9 p.m. with all-new episodes in the fall onABC.
