The guest list included Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Scotty McCreery, and Lauren Alaina, who each scored an award nomination (or in Carrie’s case five nominations), and Idol alums Casey James and Jordin Sparks.
Carrie, who donned a sparkly black mini dress, led the Idol pack, taking home two major awards. The country star won the prize for both Video of the Year for “Good Girl” and Collaborative Video of the Year for “Remind Me” with Brad Paisley.
Last year’s Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, beat out his his runner-up, Lauren Alaina, for the second time, taking home the award for Breakthrough Video of the Year for “The Trouble With Girls.”
Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, and Lady Antebellum also took home a bundle of awards while the entire audience enjoyed performances from Kenney Chesney, the Pistol Annies, and Zac Brown Band and Willie Nelson, who performed a lively rendition of “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die.”
And as if the night didn’t have enough star power, co-hosts Kristen Bell and Toby Keith kicked off the ceremony with a video chronicling their fights to be solo-hosts featuring mock interviews from Matthew McConaughey, Kathie Lee Gifford, and even President Barack Obama and presidential hopeful Mitt Romney!
Sounds like it pays to be on American Idol — if only to score a ticket to the CMT Awards!
