Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Reflect on Their Teen Mom Experience – Exclusive

Teen Mom Catelynn Lowell and fiance Tyler Baltierra bared their souls to the world, and while not all of it was pretty, neither regrets taking part in the show.

The final season of Teen Mom premieres June 12, and Wetpaint Entertainment chatted with Catelynn and Tyler about their favorite moments and what lays ahead for them.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Looking back, what has been your favorite moment from the show?

Tyler: Our favorite moment is when we get to see [our daughter] Carly, and it gets to be captured on camera and everybody gets to see it.

Catelynn: Our fans love that, I get tweets all the time, “Are we going to see Carly this season?” Our fans are dying to see that. One memorable moment is Tyler proposing to me!

Tyler: It’s been a fun ride.

Anything you regret?

Tyler: I don’t regret anything that’s aired on the show. I feel the more …

Catelynn: ... real we are ...

Tyler: ... the more real you are on camera and the more you express your emotions and not hide anything, that’s what makes the audience connect with you.

Catelynn: Fans will come up to me and say, “Ohmigosh, you’re just like how you are on TV” and I say, “Yes, I don’t hide anything.” I put myself out there — like when me and Tyler got into that huge fight and I lied to him about my ex-boyfriend in Florida, I wasn’t even going to do that season because of that reason. I ended up doing it and all I got was support from it.

And it really showed people — because 16 and Pregnant made our relationship look like we are perfect and we don’t ever fight, but it’s not true. Every relationship has struggles.

How much do you and other Teen Moms stay in touch?

Catelynn: A lot. I’ll text Maci here and there … we go to Nashville every year, so we’ll meet up and go do fun stuff.

For the premiere date, me and Maci are going to fly to Farrah’s house to watch the premiere together. We are very close, and try to keep in contact.

A few questions from our Facebook fan page. From Barbie P., what advice would you give to other young couples in a similar situation?

Catelynn: My No. 1 advice is if you want to make your relationship last, you need to have trust and very, very good communication. That was my and Tyler’s problem, we never expressed our feelings until we went to counseling, and now we have a very good relationship. With no trust, there is no relationship.

From Natasha R., how do you deal with negative comments about teen pregnancy?

Catelynn: I’ll write them back and say, come to me when you know the real facts. Or I’ll write, did you know the teen pregnancy rate has dropped 9 percent since the show.

Tyler: We don’t know if that’s the cause, but there’s got to be some correlation there. We just laugh at them, because I think it just comes out of pure ignorance. They don’t know what they’re talking about and are just uneducated people. That’s something we’re really passionate about, educating people about adoption. That’s why we decided to do the show in the first place.

Catelynn: Because we were the only ones doing that option.

Tyler: And in the Teen Mom franchise, we are still the only couple that has chosen adoption that’s on the show.

From Jamaica T., what are your plans for the future?

Catelynn: My plan is to get my human services degree and become a pregnancy counselor. Get married, be married for like two years, and then have babies.

Tyler: I really want to get into acting, possibly producing and directing. Also getting my bachelor’s in social work to help at-risk youth and help kids coming from broken homes, like we did. So I’ve got a couple things on my plate that I hope to achieve.

What would you say is the biggest takeaway from your involvement with Teen Mom?

Catelynn: It has really opened a lot of doors for me. I’ve taught a lot of girls, I’ve helped a lot of pregnant women place for adoption. I think that doing the show and doing what I did for Carly really opened me up to what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Tyler: I think the takeaway I get is the overall message the show has. I take pride in that. We changed the world, we showed people “this is what it’s really like.” So the takeaway for me is just educating people about it and having that support from our fans, because without our fans, we wouldn’t be here.
