Does True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten Channel George W. Bush to Play Jason Stackhouse?
Jason Stackhouse has been through a lot in the last four seasons of True Blood. From suffering the effects of “V” to being raped by werepanthers, the young Southerner is just trying to make it in a vamp-filled world — despite not being the brightest bulb in Bon Temps.
Perhaps because of that, Ryan Kwanten has had numerous fans ask him if he channels former United States President George W. Bush in his performance.
“I didn’t [channel him], but it’s interesting to hear that,” Ryan said in Complex Magazine. “There were a couple people in my life who inspired Jason ... But as the character evolved and the seasons went on, I came to the conclusion that the decisions he was making were the polar opposite of the decisions I would make, and that was how I eventually ended up playing Jason — going against all my own instincts.”
The University of Sydney graduate is happy he chose acting over a job in the business world, but is weary of being stuck in the same role.
“I love the Jason Stackhouse character,” Ryan said. “But I also love stepping out of his shoes. Nothing could be more unappealing to me than playing characters like him over and over again.”
You can see Ryan play Jason in the upcoming season of True Blood starting June 10 on HBO.
