James Franco’s Feelings: The Kristen Stewart Edition
You guys, James Franco has a lot of feelings. He has them about Lena Dunham’s Girls, he has them about Steel Magnolias (“ I can get off on female bonding”), he even has them about truffle-flavored gourmet movie theatre popcorn (“usually get[s] old after a few bites”). Lately he’s been having Franco feelings about Kristen Stewart and Snow White and the Huntsman, which he’s been busily blogging about over at Huffington Post.
In his latest blog, “Kristen Stewart the Queen,” James sincerely wrestles with some serious SWATH-related questions. Such as “Is Chris [Hemsworth] just an unusually rugged man with a deep voice, or can he play anything other than a Norse god?” He also ponders, “Is Kristen just a pouty Vampire lover riding a temporary wave of pop culture madness, or is she the real deal?” Only time will tell, we think.
But what’s really on his mind is whether or not the role of Snow White mirrors Kristen Stewart’s career and rise to fame. He explains,
Some might argue that Stewart — or any young upstart buoyed by the surge of a successful franchise, album, or Internet meme — is just as unjustly charmed [as Snow White]. Some could say she had a lucky break when she was cast in Twilight and then rose to international stardom based less on her own skills than on the success of the project. But, whereas Snow White would more than likely be inarticulate, diseased and frail after being confined in a tower for 10 years, Kristen Stewart landed Twilight after years of working with some of the best directors in the business (David Fincher, Sean Penn). She actually does deserve the crown.
In his analysis of the film and her role, he continues to defend KStew’s fierceness, adding “Stewart has braved more scrutiny of her private life than most presidents. […] Whatever Snow White may be, Kristen is a warrior queen. ” Preach it!
If James’s burst of feminist theory seems out of the blue, it shouldn’t. He’s currently earning a PhD in English at Yale University, which means that he, like, actually knows what he’s talking about. For more Franco feelings, you can keep up with all his brainy blogs here.
