Nathan Fillion Opens Up About His “Heartbreak” Over Firefly’s Cancellation and Summer Plans
We may be several weeks deep in one of the most painful Castle hiatuses ever, but luckily Richard Castle himself (aka Nathan Fillion) is the cover boy for the June 10 issue ofParademagazine.
As if we weren’t psyched enough to see Nathan’s smug mug on the cover (he’s also shirtless, by the way) our favorite adorkable dude candidly opens up about what his parents think of Castle, the possibility of more Firefly, and his family-oriented summer plans!
Nathan explains that while his parents have always supported him in all that he’s done, they are huge fans of Castle in particular— just like us!
“My parents are big fans of anything I do … There are other projects that that I don’t think were really their cup of tea," he says. "But Castle suits their sensibilities very well.”
Sticking with the family theme, Nathan also revealed that his summer plans include two small projects followed by some traveling with his brother, who accompanies him on a “bucket list trip” every summer.
“This year it’s going to be Brazil—Rio de Janeiro for sure," he reveals. "Morena Baccarin, who I did Fireflywith, is from Brazil so she’s going to suggest I take her mom to dinner.”
Two Fillions on one vacation? We’re not sure our hearts can handle that …
Of course, no Nathan Fillion interview would be complete without at least one question about our beloved Firefly, and when asked about buzz that the show may be revived, Nathan was very honest about that possibility.
“There’ve been rumors for 10 years about that darn thing coming back. It was heartbreak for me when Firefly got canceled. The fact that we actually got a movie out of it [Serenity], bringing back characters I hadn’t had enough of yet, was a dream come true for me,” he says.
Nathan continues, “Joss [Whedon] gave me the lead in a film, and that put me on a different path. Now I can be considered for a lead in a picture. So at this point to say I want more — it’s too selfish. I got exactly what I wanted.”
We love that Nathan is still so humble and grateful for all of his success. We predict he’ll be around for a long time.
