Pretty Little Liars Speculation: Did Melissa Have a Fake Miscarriage (and Pregnancy)?

Ever since the Pretty Little Liars Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), we’ve been suspicious of Melissa’s (Torrey DeVitto) pregnancy. What began as a happy, unexpected accident with former fiance Ian (Ryan Merriman) suddenly started to seem like a potential hoax. And in Season 3, Episode 2: “Blood Is the New Black”, it sounds like Melissa’s baby was never actually born at all.

When Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) mom walked in on her and Toby (Keegan Allen) having a super hot makeout on the couch, Mrs. Hastings asked, “Did your sister call? I’ve left three messages for her.” Spencer replied, “Uh, no. Is Melissa okay?” To which her mom said, indignantly, “I don’t think ‘okay’ really applies in her situation, does it?” This sentence hung in mid-air as everyone exchanged knowing glances.

This mini-conversation suggests that Melissa is in a pretty bad place right now. One of our theories involves a possible miscarriage, because that would certainly explain the dialogue. Plus, there’s also our theory that Melissa was never pregnant in the first place. Bear with us.

Melissa may have planned a fake pregnancy from the beginning if she is on the “A” team. Why? To appear completely incapable of performing any of the “A” stunts, from knocking Toby off a landing to playing a video in a graveyard in the middle of the night. Also, the Black Swan looks an awful lot like Melissa — without her baby bump. If her bump was fake, she could definitely be the Black Swan.

Finally, the only evidence we have that Melissa’s pregnancy has continued unharmed is Garrett’s (Yani Gellman) word that he was going with her to the OB/GYN. Obviously in retrospect, neither of them has exactly proven to be trustworthy.

Do you think it’s possible that Melissa has recently suffered a fake miscarriage? Share your theories and thoughts in the comments below!
