Josh Henderson on Joining TNT’s Dallas Reboot: “My Mom Went Nuts” — Exclusive
Two decades after Dallas ended its first chapter, a new Ewing generation has risen in the oil-soaked ranks to fight over the family business. TNT brilliantly brought Dallasback — to the tune of 6.8 million viewers during its first episode, making it the number one scripted cable premiere this year. Jesse Metcalf and Josh Henderson play the hunky rival cousins at the helm of the soapy series.
Wetpaint Entertainment recently chatted with Josh Henderson, who plays John Ross Ewing, J.R.’s heir apparent. Josh was born and raised in Dallas by his mother, Sharon, who was a big fan of the original series. Here’s what Josh had to say about joining the show — and his mom's adorable excitement:
It must be so much freaking fun being on the Dallas reboot!
Yeah. This is a really fun time in general for me, and I'm just kind of taking every day and thanking God in the morning in my prayers. It's been great.
How did this come about?
Well, I had heard about this show coming back and basically, I felt like I was supposed to audition. I was born in Dallas, and I knew how big of a deal the show was and still is around the world. I really felt like I needed to be a part of it. I got the audition and went in, and I had a great day. I had a great audition. I felt good about it, and then a half hour after I auditioned, I got a phone call saying that I was going to test. They wanted me to test for John Ross, and a couple of weeks later, I had the role.
Me and my mom, we both cried on the phone, and my mom went nuts. And then she went Facebook nuts, and my mom is very, very social network savvy. It was a great day for me, and here we are now. We finished the first season, and we finally aired. It's been a year and a half since I got cast in the show, so the fact that it's finally on the air is just exciting.
