"He definitely has a secret and he definitely has an 'in' to what's going on," he says. "Not that he's involved with what's going on but he definitely knows what's up.”
He says that he spoke with the episode writer Joseph Dougherty in advance, because he wanted to know what was going through Lucas’s head during the episode. Brendan says they spoke “about what exactly Lucas knows and he said it could go a couple directions at this point. It could be Lucas is in cohorts with Mona [Janel Parrish] to trying to protect Hanna [Ashley Benson]. It's open-ended at this point."
Hmm... But why would Mona suddenly want to help Hanna and the Liars? She’s “A”! Brendan continues, "Lucas's point of view is that everything is right in front of Hanna and all she needs to do is really open her eyes and really think about what's going on, and all the answers are in front of her."
And about that Black Swan scene at the end of Season 2, Brendan says that yes, he does know the mystery character’s identity. But, oddly, "I didn't realize when we were shooting that it was supposed to be a mystery until afterwards.” Could that be a sign that the Black Swan is not top suspect Melissa (Torrey DeVitto)? After all, if he were shooting a scene with Torrey and she was suddenly not pregnant, he would probably realize it was a huge deal, right?
