Awkward! Is There an STD Clause in the Jersey Shore Castmates’ Contracts?

Note to the amazing eight Jersey Shore castmates: Don’t go getting an STD from your next Karma sexcapade, because MTV probably won’t pay for the, er, damages.

According to Seth Kaufman, former editorial director of, the above scenario is part of the reality behind most reality shows, including Jersey Shore.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Seth shares that the macaroni rascals “have to agree to what’s known as a ‘VD clause’ in which they agree not to hold show producers responsible for any sexually transmitted diseases they may catch while shooting the show.”

The author of new roman à clef The King of Pain, a novel about life as a reality TV producer, Seth disclosed part of this “VD clause” that allegedly appears in every Jersey Shore cast member’s contract as follows.

Producer hereby informs me, and I acknowledge and accept, that the other participants have not been screened for any diseases, sicknesses or other health conditions (and specifically have not been tested for any sexually transmitted diseases) and I assume all risks of interacting with the other participants, including any consensual contact.

We just hope that Pauly D and Vinny — the only two single roommates left — read the fine print!
