Phillip recently told People that his post-kidney surgery condition is “pretty good right now.”
The Season 11 champ, who’ll be joining his fellow former competitors on the road for the American Idols Live!Tour starting on July 6, suffered through repeated kidney stones throughout the show, which required multiple small operations followed by one big one shortly after he his big win.
“I’m regaining all of my energy, you know, trying to, and recovering, resting as much as I can, taking it easy as much as I can,” he said. “But I’m doing a lot better than I was on the show, even though the surgery was pretty long. Since I’ve gotten better I’ve been able to play the guitar again.”
Apart from getting back into the physical swing of things, he explained that there have been a lot of other post-Idol adjustments to make. “My life has changed so much,” Phillip said. “I’m not used to all the attention. It’s really crazy.”
He’s also keeping mum on whether Idol judge Jennifer Lopez will be returning for Season 12, saying only, “I haven’t talked to Jennifer Lopez in a while, she hasn’t called me, and I’m real bummed about that. Hopefully she’s doing well with her career.”
