Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson Reveals More About Her “Scary” Spring Breakers Role
As many Ashley Benson (Hanna) fans know, the Pretty Little Liarsstar spent a few months this past winter shooting the upcoming movie Spring Breakers, co-starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and James Franco. So what is Ashley’s character like?
It’s important to point out that Spring Breakers is written and directed by Harmony Korine, who wrote the screenplay for the 1995 movie Kids. Kids was a controversial film — director Larry Clark used real East Village teenagers to portray, as the NY Times put it, “a spiritually dead teen-age culture built on aimlessness, casual cruelty and empty pleasure.” Rosario Dawson and Chloe Sevigny, then 16 and 21 respectively, starred as roughed-up, sexually promiscuous city kids who took risks, partied, and did drugs, depressingly.
Based on the plot synopsis of Spring Breakers (scheduled for a 2013 release), the story and mood of Ashley’s new film is hauntingly similar: “Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work.”
But back to Ashley’s character. A fan asked Ashley on Twitter about her Spring Breakers role, and Ash responded, “I play Brit. She’s fearless, strong, blunt, and a little scary.”
Based on the grungy photos of Ash and her co-stars on location, we definitely believe the “scary” part! We know she can play a great bad girl, but are you ready to see Ashley playing such a different type than Hanna on PLL?
