Baby Daddy’s Chelsea Kane Kinda Wants to Have a Baby Now – Exclusive

Chelsea Kane danced her way into our hearts on Season 12 of Dancing With the Stars, where she and pro partner Mark Ballas finished third behind Hines Ward and Kirstie Alley. Well, she’s since taken on a bigger challenge than perfecting the foxtrot: On ABC Family’s new comedy Baby Daddy, Chelsea stars as the childhood friend of Ben (Jean-Luc Bilodeau) and Danny (Derek Theler), two brothers who are trying to raise Ben’s baby together with little-to-no experience.

That Chelsea has taken to comedy like a fish to water isn’t really a surprise, but what may shock you is what she tells Wetpaint Entertainment about her attitude toward having kids sooner rather than later!

Wetpaint Entertainment: Why did you want to be a part if this show?

Chelsea Kane: I was really excited to be a part of ABC Family because I've always been in the Mouse House, so to jump into this project, I can still kind of take my fans with me from my Disney days and Dancing days. And it just sounded fun. You're working with a baby, which I think brings an element of surprise all the time. Everyone always has to be in the moment because you never know what the baby's going to do.

What is it like to work with a baby?

For me, terrible. I just go home every night to my boyfriend [Stephen Colletti] and, like, I want to have a baby. Everyone's like, "Oh my God, no. You're not having a child any time soon." But it's so fun. We have been blessed with two of the sweetest little girls who play Emma on our show. And there's also something so cute about watching three really hot young guys do everything they possibly can to please this child. It's really endearing, you know?

So the babies aren’t big criers?

That's what I'm saying. It's like the worst introduction to kids because they never cry. And when they do, it's just, like, you hand them off to their amazing mother, who's the most patient, wonderful woman in the world. So for me, it's just, like, this looks easy. Let's do it.

How's your boyfriend with that?

He's like, no, no, no.

Tell me about your character.

Riley is cool. She's studying to be a lawyer. And Ben and Danny, who are brothers on the show, were her childhood friends, and she was kind of like a tomboy, also very overweight when they were growing up. It's cute how she comes into their lives now. She has her life together a little bit, and there's a really sweet love triangle between her and Ben and Danny.

How much of the triangle do we see continuing on?

It's getting good. We just finished our seventh episode the other night, and it, like, got really juicy. There's some really cute stuff between Ben and Riley, but there's also such a great love story between Riley and Danny.

Was a sitcom something you wanted to do?

I've always wanted to do a sitcom, always, always. Having been in theater, I've wanted that live audience aspect. And when I did Jonas, it was awesome, but we weren't able to film in front of a live audience because the Jonas brothers became massive stars at the time. So yeah, it's really cool to kind of be back in that element.

What are the challenges?

You find yourself trying to top your last performance a little bit. It is hard not to get so caught up in the moment that you watch it back on TV, and you're like, "I'm really overacting." But it's fun in the sense that it really brings us all to life.

There's got to be mishaps with a child or funny moments that are completely unintentional.

Oh, I've been thrown up on lord knows how many times at this point. Yeah, we've all been puked on. But I think it's such an interesting group of people to begin with, between Melissa and Taj and me and Derek, no one belongs together, but for some reason, it works.
