She’s a proven liar. And we’re not just talking about little white lies, but major, big ones. We discovered in Season 3, Episode 4: “Birds of a Feather” that Melissa faked her own pregnancy for a long time, even going so far as to wear a fake baby bump. And she hid the fact that she was the Black Swan from everyone except the mysterious person she claims instructed her to wear the costume to the Masquerade Ball and distract Jenna (Tammin Sursok). Murderers tend to tell huge lies, too.
Maya was seen talking to Jason. Putting all “A” connections aside, Melissa may have killed Maya out of jealousy. We know how terribly she reacted when she found out that her former fiance Ian (Ryan Merriman) was flirting with Alison (Sasha Pieterse). Maya was spotted talking to Jason in Season 2, Episode 20: “CTRL:A”, and we learned that Jason (Drew Van Acker) and Melissa may have been hooking up a while back. Alternatively, Melissa may have been worried that Jason was telling Maya about his Hastings connection. At the time, she didn’t realize Spencer (Troian Bellisario) was already on that trail.
Maya could have found out about the NAT club. Maya wasn’t just seen talking to Jason, but also to Noel (Brant Daugherty). Since we know Noel’s older brother was friends with Ian, Garrett (Yani Gellman), and Jason, Melissa may have been worried that Maya was discovering secrets of the NAT club, and therefore the secrets of those films the NAT club had made. Judging by her behavior inSeason 2, Episode 24: “If These Dolls Could Talk”, when she assured Garrett that no one would ever find out about them, we know Melissa is scared of those tapes leaking.
Maya could have found out about Alison’s murder. One of the most likely reasons why Alison was murdered is her possible discovery of those tapes. If Maya found out why Ali was killed, and therefore found out about Melissa’s link to the murder, then Melissa would surely want her dead too.
If Melissa is on the “A” team, then she wants to hurt the Liars’ significant others. We already know how much “A” likes to torture the Little Liars’ boyfriends. Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) almost went to jail after he hacked into Mona’s (Janel Parrish) phone, and poor Toby (Keegan Allen) had an “A”-caused accident. So why should Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) girlfriend be safe? The Liars were often warned that those they loved were becoming “A”’s targets. Could Maya have been one of them?
