Winning? Charlie Sheen Wants to Judge American Idol, if They Meet His Demands
If American Idol wants to continue the tradition of having at least one judge be questionably lecherous, borderline incomprehensible, and, well, kind of out there — Charlie Sheen is the guy to call. Dr. Tiger Blood has put himself in the running to be the next Steven Tyler/Paula Adbul, courtesy of TMZ asking him about it.
Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe admitted the show's current search for new judges is like what they did for X-Factor: "Everybody’s name came up. It’s going to be the same with American Idol." Adam Lambert's name has emerged as one possibility to replace Steven, Randy Jackson or Jennifer Lopez and others will probably emerge, beyond Charlie.
Nigel actually talked to TMZ about Charlie, possibly joking when he said he would love to have Sheen and Jerry Lewis (random!) as judges for Season 12.
Here are Charlie's conditions to do the show, as told to TMZ:
• FX, which is airing his new show Anger Management, has to sign off on the Idol deal, which would put Charlie on FOX.
• He wants money. "If the numbers move the needle AND 'Idol' matches 20% of my weekly salary for Autism Speaks, JDRF, and the Boys and Girls Club ... then the hell with it. As we say, pour the smoke."
Right, that's the kind of thing we all say. If they do cast Charlie, it will be a giant sign to the world that Idol just wants big ratings and big headlines without requiring that the judges have any real experience in the music industry. Maybe they figure if Howard Stern can do America's Got Talent, Charlie can do Idol. But Idol is better than that ... right?
