Pretty Little Liars

Lucy Hale Says Songwriting Brings Out Her “Completely Vulnerable” Side

When Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale (Aria) announced that she wanted to make a country album, she also said that she was hoping her voice would sound like a Taylor Swift/Carrie Underwood hybrid. Now, her country star collaborator, Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, tells CMT that she may be even better.

“She sounds like Carrie [Underwood] — strong with a blues side and a pop side to it,” Kristian says. “And a lot like Faith [Hill].” He continued, “Her voice will get even stronger, and you’ll hear more powerhouse stuff, but stylistically she lives in that range.”

As for Lucy, she revealed how much more personal and intimate songwriting is compared to acting in a role, like Aria on PLL. “We talked about how, in acting, I don’t have to be Lucy, and I don’t let a lot of people know who I am. But with songwriting, you need to let down walls and be completely vulnerable and wear your heart on your sleeve."

Hopefully that means we’ll get to hear some details on her romance with boyfriend Chris Zylka. Hey, if she’s going for a Taylor Swift style, she’ll have to dish on the boys in her life, and we’re all in favor!

Catch an all-new episode of PLL on Tuesday, July 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
