However, runner-up Alex Newell, who appeared in only two episodes as Vocal Adrenaline leader Unique, will be returning next season. Could Unique be pulling a Blaine (Darren Criss) and transferring to McKinley?
So far, Damian is the only Glee cast member not back for Season 4. His on-screen love interest, Sugar (Vanessa Lengies), will be back, along with all the other returning seniors. Samuel and Alex haven’t signed their contracts yet, but producers seemed confident they’d return.
Still no news about Grant Gustin (Sebastian) or Max Adler (Karofsky), but at least we haven’t heard an official “no” yet. Though Damian was an undeniable fan favorite on The Glee Project last year, and appeared in more Glee episodes than any other Glee Projectwinner or finalist, he’s now the first official victim of creator Ryan Murphy’s plan to “streamline” Glee’s cast for Season 4.
Fans may have loved Damian, but the character of Rory seemed relegated to a background chorus member during most of his episodes. When he did get to sing, the songs were mainly slow ballads like “Blue Christmas” or “Home.” We always hoped he’d get to sing more upbeat tunes, like that awesome turn in One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” during Season 3 prom. It seems like now, we might never get the chance.
