Pretty Little Liars Speculation: What Is Holden’s Connection to the “A” Team?

Back in May, Pretty Little Liars producer Norman Buckley tweeted a photo of Shay and Shane Coffey (Holden Strauss) from the set of Season 3, Episode 6: “The Remains of the ‘A'". That episode airs tonight (July 17). So, what can we expect from Holden now that he’s back in the picture?

Let’s review the details! Holden and his family moved to Portugual for a year before returning to Rosewood — a scenario similar to the year abroad Aria [Lucy Hale] and her family spent at the beginning of the series. Because Holden and Aria were friends when they were kids, their parents decided they should spend time together again. Next thing you know, the two were being set up on what amounted to teen playdates.

At the time, Aria wasn’t allowed to see Ezra (Ian Harding), so she turned her Holden time into much-needed Ezria time. Holden was cool with that since he had his own idea of how best to while away those hours — fighting in an underground Korean martial arts club near Philadelphia. Then Aria discovered his heart pills (due to a childhood condition) and confronted him — which seemed to help him realize he was abusing his body for no good reason, though we don’t really know for sure.

So why would Holden’s storyline pick up again at this particular time? While many of us never really believed that Holden was completely innocent in the “A” game, he did save Aria from Noel (Brant Daugherty) in Season 2, Episode 19: "The Naked Truth". But he’s also secretive, and when we asked you if you were disappointed with Holden’s storyline in Season 2, the majority of you (44%) said that you think there’s more to Holden’s story than his heart condition.

The biggest clue that Holden could be on the “A” team? In Season 2, Episode 14: "Through Many Dangers, Toils, and Snares," Hanna (Ashley Benson) hit “A” with her car, and “A” was hit hard in his or her side. When we saw Holden’s bruise, it was exactly where “A”’s would be. Could he have been the one she hit?

Also, if Holden was Aria’s childhood friend, it makes sense that he could have been any of the Little Liars’ friends, including Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse). What about the theory that Holden is someone from Ali’s past? Share your theories in the comments below!
