The Dark Knight Rises Shooting: Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway Offer Statements
Friday's tragedy in Aurora, Colorado — which saw a shooter open fire during a midnight screening of The Dark Night Rises, fatally wounding 12 people and injuring 58 more, making it the biggest mass shooting in American history — has been devastating for everyone, and the studio was quick to respond by shutting down much of the press surrounding the film this weekend.
Now, after director Christopher Nolan released an emotional statement about the incident, the film's two biggest stars — Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway — have also spoken out, offering their condolences to everyone affected by the tragedy.
"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," Christian Bale said in a statement. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
Anne Hathaway also released a statement to E! News, saying, "My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act... I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
