Chris Colfer Wants a Klaine Shakeup on Glee Season 4, But He’s Worried Fans Will “Crucify” Him — Exclusive

To say that Glee’s Chris Colfer has been busy lately is a bit like saying Kurt Hummel only kind of knows how to rock a pair of tight gold pants.

Instead of spending his summer relaxing on a beach somewhere, Chris has been hard at work promoting his debut novel, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell a fun twist on classic fairy tales. Though he’s currently in the middle of a nationwide book tour, Chris still made the time to stop by The TCA FOX All Star Party in Hollywood on July 23 to dish about what’s to come for his character in Glee Season 4.

Wetpaint Entertainment spoke exclusively to Chris about his book, and what’s to come for Kurt on Glee this season, including a future with Sarah Jessica Parker in NYC — and a possible shake up for Kurt and Blaine (Darren Criss).

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell hit the shelves earlier this month. What was it that inspired your writing a book?

It was a promise I made myself when I was ten. I came up with the story then, and I wanted to publish it then. But I was ten, it's hard to write a book. So I put it on the back burner and waited, and finally had an opportunity to, so I was like, “I'm doing it.”

What kind of stars had to align for you to do it?

Honestly, it was winning the Golden Globe. I got so many offers to do autobiographies after that and I'm like, “I'm 20. I don't want to do an autobiography.” But I was like, “I always wanted to do a children's fantasy novel. Would you want to do that with me?” And they said, yes. And that's what aligned for me to do it.

What kind of book is it?

Actually, my biggest mistake is that I've been saying it's a children's fantasy novel when, in fact, the people I think getting most the enjoyment out of it are teenagers and adults. But it's about a pair of twins that enter a fairy tale world. And people are really, really loving it. It's been like the greatest experience I've ever had.

What's the book tour like? How is it different from the rest of the stuff you do for Glee?

Because it's just me going out there. I don't have my Glee cast with me, so every time I go to a book signing, there's a thousand people there just to see me. My mouth hangs open. I can't believe it, and every time I've had a book signing so far, they've had to call police because of crowd control. So it's been amazing.

That speech you made at the Globes was amazing.

Oh, thanks. I don't know where that came from. That was a big skill I learned during speech and debate, impromptu speeches. I'm just glad I made it up there. I don't remember that moment at all because my adrenaline was so high, but it's been one of the best moments of my entire life.

And what happens now on Glee? Kurt is still in Ohio when we go back?

He is, I believe, yes. I haven't read the script yet. So I don't know. I'm still in the first episode and all that.

What do you think the separation between Ohio and New York will mean for the show? Is it a good thing?

I think it's going to be great. I think it's going to add so much variety to the show. I'm really looking forward to it.

You get to work with either Sarah Jessica Parker or Kate Hudson?

Yes. I do Sarah Jessica for now. I'm so excited about. I know she's going to mentor me, but that's all I know.

I don't think she's coming to Ohio?

Probably not. We'll see.

What would you like to see as far as the relationship between Kurt and Blaine?

Whatever makes those girls on the internet happy. Every time I mention just like a slight hint, like, “Oh, they might have trouble,” they try to crucify me. I just want whatever makes them happy. I'm so scared of those angry tweets. I want them to be happy. But Darren and I both agree that we're ready for something to happen.

A shake up?

Just something. Something dramatic for us actors to sink our teeth into.
