American Idol

Fox Planning Small Town and Internet Auditions for American Idol Season 12

Season 12 of American Idol aims to change things up from previous seasons. Even the audition process is getting a facelift.

Rather than just relying on big city auditions for the talent pool, the show will include an “American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour,” which will seek out potential contestants who perhaps couldn’t make it to the big city stops.

The bus plans to hit the following cities:

Idaho Falls, ID
Billings, MT
Casper, WY
Rock Rapids, IA
Iowa City, IA
Bowling Green, KY
Clarksdale, MS
Joplin, MO
Dodge City, KA,
Grand Junction, CO

Idol will also be opening the audition floodgates to internet users with "Nominate an Idol," a program which allows friends and family of potential contestants to submit videos of solo a capella performances for consideration. The singers chosen will then be surprised on location with cameras with an opportunity to move forward with the show.

Is this the kind of “creative reinvigoration” the show needs for next season? Let us know in the comments!
