MTV Brings Back House of Style: Fashionistas Rejoice!
One of the earliest shows focusing on the lives of models and the fashion industry will be making a comeback this fall!
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that MTV will revive House of Style in an online format on MTV Style, with certain content crossing over to TV.
“The landscape has changed but the common threads of humor behind the scenes of fashion and the DIY spirit are universal,” said MTV Digital VP of Production Sophia Rai. “Now it’s more about how to tell the story using social media tools.”
From 1989 to 1999, House of Style gave a never-before-seen look into the world of high fashion through host Cindy Crawford (who helmed the show for six years) and interviews with top designers like John Galliano, ALexander McQueen, and Karl Lagerfeld.
As much as the focus was on the runway, House of Style was endearing for its cheekier moments, like Todd Oldham’s DIY segments in which he teaches viewers how to do things like dye their hair with Kool-Aid, or guest spots by musicians like the Wu-Tang Clan and Duran Duran — because what mixes better with models than musicians, right?
The series will re-launch on October 9. But to prepare yourself for the newest incarnation of House of Style, MTV Style has put together an archive with more than 170 clips from every season of the series. You can also check out this documentary premiering on August 7 about the seminal style show with commentary from the original cast and crew.
