In an attempt to figure out what "Maya Knew" could mean, we’re going to go ahead and summarize all of the secrets we now know Maya kept from Emily (Shay Mitchell). Did she learn something dangerous from one of this secret connections?
The roaming parties. We were just as shocked as Emily when Holden (Shane Coffey) began talking about the mysterious roaming party scene where he’d spotted Maya in the past (Season 3, Episode 6: “The Remains of the ‘A’”). If Maya was going to an underground party, why wouldn’t she invite Emily along? And why would she be hanging out with the same people who seem to have drugged Emily and drove her to Ali’s dug-up grave? Either Maya was one of the bad guys (which showrunner Marlene King recently denied), or she was doing some serious reconnaissance work. Or maybe she just fell in with the wrong crowd.
Car rides with Jenna. In Episode 7, Maya’s alleged cousin Nate told Emily that Jenna (Tammin Sursok) mentioned getting car rides from Maya in the past. This is somewhat shocking to hear, given how suspicious Jenna is as a character, and all the potential there is for Maya to learn something she shouldn’t. Of course, we’re hearing this via a grapevine made up of two people (Nate and Jenna) we don’t entirely trust. Still, if Maya knew Jenna through those parties, she may have gotten close enough to her to offer her rides.
Her relationships with Jason and Noel. We still don’t have answers regarding those suspicious sightings of Maya talking intimately with Jason (Drew Van Acker) and Noel (Brant Daugherty) towards the end of Season 2. But based on the theory that Maya learned too much about a forbidden subject and was murdered as a result, it’s possible that Jason and Noel were protecting the NAT club and checking in on her to make sure she wouldn’t open her mouth.
The boy she hooked up with at True North. We’ve speculated that Jason or Noel might be the mystery boy that Maya hooked up with while away at boot camp. But the door is wide open for other possibilities, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the mystery boy turned out to be connected to the “A” team.
Who kept calling her? Maya started getting a series of unwanted calls on her cell in the days before she disappeared. Whenever she got one, she looked incredibly frustrated and annoyed, and she never picked up. Was this person threatening her?
