Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: What Is the New “A”‘s “Specific Agenda”?

At the end of Pretty Little Liars Season 2, we learned that Mona's (Janel Parrish) main motivation for torturing the girls was — if you believe her — to get revenge after Hanna (Ashley Benson) started abandoning her as a friend. While we're not convinced that's the whole story, it does explain why Mona was constantly hurting the Liars in all sorts of ways.

The new "A" is far less omnipresent, but s/he tends to be even scarier when s/he does do something to the Liars. And this makes sense, because according to showrunner Marlene King, "this A has a very specific agenda."

To us, that sounds like this "A" wants something beyond just making the girls miserable. But what? Here are our top three guesses about what the new "A"'s agenda is.

1. To keep the truth behind Ali's murder a secret. It seems like most of this "A"'s actions have revolved around Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) body. "A" tried to frame the girls for digging her up, "A" appears to have put Hanna's (Ashley Benson) blood on that anklet, etc. Sure, framing the Liars for Ali's murder hurts them, but it also means whoever really did it gets off. Maybe that's the the goal.

2. To hide the truth behind Maya's murder. We're still not convinced Maya (Bianca Lawson) and Ali were killed by the same person. If Maya was killed for knowing too much about something, maybe the new "A" is trying to focus the Liars on Ali so they don't dig too far into Maya's murder and discover the secret she died for.

3. To reveal that there's more to Ali's "death" than it seems. Sorry, we can't let go of the theory that either Ali or her potential twin is alive. Maybe this "A" actually wants that secret unearthed, and that's why they are turning so much attention on Ali's murder and, more specifically, her body.

What do you think this "A" wants? Let us know in the comments below.
