Chris Colfer’s Next Movie Will Be Set In an Insane Asylum
Does Glee’s Chris Colfer (Kurt) ever sleep? Amidst wrapping up a book tour, returning to Glee, and preparing for the December release of his filmStruck By Lightning, the 22-year-old actor already has plans to write and star in a new film about a 1930s-era insane asylum. We think Chris is insane for never seeming to take a day off, but we’re certainly not complaining! The guy has too much talent.
If you’re thinking that Chris’ new film idea sounds just a wee bit different from his previous, more upbeat work, you’re not alone. He spoke to MTV News about his plans, joking that “it’s a little different than The Land of Stories and Struck By Lightning.” Ya think?
Chris plans to shoot the new film “this winter or next winter,” but unlike with Struck By Lightning, in which he had to look young enough to convincingly play a high school student, there isn’t the same kind of time crunch here. “This one, there’s room for some age,” he says.
So what is it about an old-timey insane asylum that intrigues Chris? The actor says he loves telling a story about “people with issues” and has “always been fascinated by the human mind.” Plus, after doing so many scenes opposite Sue Sylvester(Jane Lynch), we’re guessing he’s learned a thing or two about people with issues.
And it looks like great “minds” think alike, as the new season of Ryan Murphy’s series, American Horror Story, will also be set in an asylum. As Chris puts it, “I guess finally those asylums get their moment in the light!”
Meanwhile, congratulations are in order, as Chris’ newly released book, The Land of Stories, has just debuted on Friday as number one on the children’s chart of the New York Times Best Seller list — no big deal. So now the guy can add “bestselling author” to his resume — that is, if he still even has space on that never-ending resume of his!
