Catelynn Lowell on Adopting Her Little Brother: “I’d Get Custody of Him For Sure”
Catelynn Lowell has been through a lot for someone so young. She was raised by an alcoholic mother, and her step-dad (Tyler's pop, Butch Baltierra) is a crack addict who abuses her mom. Poor Catelynn could barely deal with her horrible home life, and would sit by and let her parents treat her badly.
"Most of the time I used to just sit there and not say anything, and pretty much just kinda, like, block it out," Catelynn tells Farrah Abraham and Maci Bookout during Teen Mom's After Show. "And then I got to the point where I was like, well I'm just gonna stand up for myself and I'm not gonna let you talk to me like that anymore."
Catelynn has been working on her relationship with her mom, April, but the real problem is Butch. "They always fight all the time," Cate explains. "He's always going in jail for assault. It's just an ongoing thing."
Unfortunately, Butch and April bring out the worst in each other, especially when it comes to their drinking and drug use. "He's a crackhead," Catelynn says. "His drug of choice is crack. He would either leave for four days, but my mom didn't want him to leave, so he would stay home and smoke in the backyard... it is a very, very toxic relationship for both of them."
Catelynn gave her own daughter up for adoption so she could have an easy childhood, but Catelynn might have to step in and adopt her little brother if April and Butch can't work out their issues. "If I ever felt like he was in trouble or going to be harmed by anything, I would totally step in," Cate says. "I would take him. I'd get custody of him for sure."
Aww, Catelynn is so responsible. "I'm never ever going to let my kid see me with a drink," she promises. We believe you, Cate!
