Why Did Snoop Dogg Change His Name to Snoop Lion?

Was Snoop exiled from the Dogg-house? Was he adopted into Game of Thrones' lion-loving House Lannister?

Nope. The artist first known as Calvin Broadus, Jr. and then as Snoop Dogg said in a statement (via Reuters) that he changed his name to Snoop Lion after being rechristened by Rastafarian priests on a recent trip to Jamaica, where he was filmed for a documentary, Reincarnated.

"I didn't want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track,” Snoop said, referencing his new reggae album coming out. “I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn't know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest." Yeah, you’re never really sure about these things until an official temple announcement.

No word yet on whether Snoop Lion plans to be arrested for possession as often as Snoop Dogg.
