Stephen Amell on His New Superhero Show Arrow and Whether He’d Do Fifty Shades of Grey – Exclusive

Stephen Amell is amped on his new CW show Arrow, in which he stars as the titular superhero, but it’s not the only project on this handsome guy’s mind.

When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Stephen at the CBS TCA All-Star Party on July 29, the 31-year-old Canadian actor also revealed that he’d be more than interested in playing Christian Grey in the film version of Fifty Shades of Grey.

We certainly wouldn’t be opposed, though he’s not the only one gunning for the role.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How would you describe your new show Arrow?

Stephen Amell: It's a crime thriller that features a superhero with no superhero powers except that he's not afraid of anything.

Why did you want to play Oliver Queen/Green Arrow?

I mean, I'm a guy. Actually, I always wanted to play the villain, so a superhero will do for the time being.

The show also has a romantic element. What can you say about the relationship between you and Katie Cassidy's character, Laurel Lance?

That it's just beginning. There's still love there even if they hate each other a little, or even if she hates him and rightfully so. He loves her, clearly. Otherwise he wouldn't push her away.

Is that romance something we're going to build on fairly early on in the season?

Yeah. Things are going to happen sooner than everyone expects. There are a lot of arcs that are set up in the pilot that you think might take the whole season, and they do not take that long.

What is the overreaching arc?

It's not a problem to have wealth; we don’t begrudge anyone that. But don't abuse it. And people that are irresponsible with power, that's who Arrow targets. I mean you could be rich, poor. There's no M.O. beyond, “If you have power, be responsible with it.”

Are people asking you left and right if you're in the running for Fifty Shades of Grey?

You’re the first reporter, but that seems to be gaining steam at the moment. I got a link for a Christian Grey fan page, and they put a picture of me as Oliver Queen on there. I'm doing kind of an asshole smirk, and it blew up. The “likes” and the comments blew up. So I don't know. I haven't read the books.

Is it something you're interested in?

Of course. I mean if you think about it, it would be four movies, the last part being two parts. I don't even own a house yet. So I don't think that I'd be turning that down any time soon.

Arrow premieres Wednesday, October 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
