Phillip Phillips Says He’s Honored to Have “Home” Featured at the 2012 Olympics

Phillip Phillips has an unexpectedly direct tie-in to this year’s Olympics. His debut anthem “Home” was chosen to usher in the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team during NBC’s coverage of the Games, and it’s now on top of the iTunes chart!

When asked by the Orlando Sentinel about whether he’s heard “Home” on the Olympics coverage yet, Phillip said, “I’ve heard a lot about it, but I’ve hardly watched any of the Olympics. It’s an honor for them to use that song, and I’m so proud of it and how well it has done.”

To be fair, Phillip is in the middle of the whirlwind American Idols Live! summer tour, so it’s understandable why he might not get to see the girls in action. But he did take some time out of his busy schedule to tweet his congratulations to the team.

Congrats to the US Female Olympic team for the Gold Medal victory last night!!” he wrote yesterday before addressing the ladies directly, saying, “Congrats on all your success guys! OHH YEAHH!”

“Home” is available on iTunes here, and Phillip is expected to release his first album in November or December.
