True Blood Star Carrie Preston’s Production Company Opens Doors for Gay Films

You may know Carrie Preston as True Blood’s Arlene Fowler, but the seasoned actress also wears another hat: Founder of Daisy 3 Pictures.

Carrie’s independent film production company — co-founded by producer Mark Holmes and writer James Vazques — doesn’t color inside the lines of typical films; in fact, their goal is to tell diverse stories that big-budget Hollywood studios wouldn’t touch.

“I feel a lot of times that the films that are made specifically for the gay audience can be a little limiting. Maybe they are more explicit sexually, or they're things that you can't share with your family,” Carrie told Zap2it. “We like to say that we make gay films you can take your mother to and women’s films with a ‘broad’ appeal.”

Daisy 3 Pictures has produced a handful of unique films — some of which Carrie and her husband Michael Emerson have starred in — including Ready? OK!, the story of a single mom whose son is obsessed with dolls and cheerleading; Feet of Clay, detailing a straight man’s fetish with his best friend’s feet; and That’s What She Said, a female-centric comedy starring Anne Heche and Alia Shawkat.

And although no two films are the same, Carrie says there is an underlying mission for the company: “I want to give a voice to characters that wouldn't otherwise have a place in our film and TV culture.”
