Dancing With The Stars

Olympic Superstar Michael Phelps Is Not Ruling Out DWTS

We were just joking about having an all-Olympics edition of Dancing With the Stars, but now that the newly retired Michael Phelps has joined swimmers Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin in showing ballroom interest, why not?

"I haven't really been known for my dancing. I know everyone who's done it — I've talked to Apolo [Ohno] and Natalie [Coughlin] about it, and they said they've enjoyed it and had a blast," Michael Phelps told Us Weekly when asked about doing the show. "I won't say I'm ruling anything out, who knows?"

Athletes tend to do well on DWTS, especially football stars and Olympians. Speed skater Apolo Ohno won Season 4 and he’s returning for Season 15 All-Stars. Gymnast Shawn Johnson won Season 8 and she’s also an All-Star. Figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi won Season 6 and her fellow figure skater Evan Lysacek took second place on Season 10. Phelps is good friends with Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, who didn’t do that well on DWTS Season 9 — taking 10th place with Alec Mazo, on a cast of 16 — but apparently still had a blast.

“Natalie and I have been on a lot of teams together," Phelps told Us Weekly. "She literally couldn't stop talking about how much fun the show was."

Jeah! That’s what we like to hear, especially if it means we could see the Ryan Lochte vs. Michael Phelps extended from the pool to the ballroom.

Now let’s sign up Lolo Jones, Alex Morgan, and Gabby Douglas...

Dancing With the Stars Season 15: All-Stars will premiere on Monday, September 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Check out the full All-Stars cast list here.
