Taylor Armstrong Speaks Out on Her 2013 Wellness Cruise and Getting Closure on Russell’s Death — Exclusive

After tragedy struck Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong in 2011, followed by a year of painful healing in 2012, she’s more than ready for 2013. Taylor has already made plans to kick it off in a healthy, positive direction by signing on to host a cruise to the Mexican Riviera that’s focused on mind, body, and emotional fitness.

Her “Living Well and Loving It!” tour will take off March 2 from San Diego. Passengers will then spend the next week aboard Holland America’s Zaandam cruise ship. Besides swimming, sunning, eating, and relaxing, guests will also be able to participate in all types of workshops. Best of all: Taylor will take questions about her role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. (A vacation that comes with dishy reality TV gossip? Sign us up please!)

Taylor opened up to Wetpaint Entertainment about the cruise, her new fitness challenge, and how Russell’s recent burial is helping her move on from her painful past.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Why a cruise?
Taylor Armstrong: You know, I just thought it would be such a cool way to interact with people and I absolutely love Mexico — I used to spend a lot of time in Cabo. But what I like the most about this is that it’s all about wellness.

And I think it will be effective because it’s seven days, so people can really immerse themselves in it. They’ll be out of their element and away from life’s day-to-day stress. I’m really looking forward to creating a positive environment for people.

Who else is coming with you?
If you watch the show, you know I have Dr. Sophy who’s helped me so much. He’s going to come. We’ll both be talking about healthy relationships plus diet and fitness. I’m also bringing my daughter, Kennedy, and my family with us. I took Kennedy on a Disney cruise earlier this year and she loved it. I’m excited to do another one with her.

Who do you expect to sign up for it?
I’m guessing mostly Housewives fans, people who have taken that journey with us. We scheduled it around spring break, so hopefully that means families will be able to come. The response we’ve gotten so far has been terrific, so hopefully a lot more people will join us.

The cruise, as you said, is going to focus on wellness and positivity. But there’s no denying that a big part of your story has been dark. Are you going to go there if people ask you about it?
Yes. I just became a spokesperson for National Victims of Domestic Violence, which is something I take very seriously. I really want to help raise awareness. Everyone there will get a copy of my book and I’ll be doing a Q&A while onboard. I am focusing on the positive, but if people want to know things, I’ll answer. I’m an open book.

Any other projects you’re working on that you want to tell us about?
There’s a personal project. On November 11, I’m going to be biking 100 miles to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence. I spent last year healing emotionally. I want to now take that to the next level and get myself in shape physically. I’m 41 and it’s time for me to really start taking care of myself.

Will you be doing it alone?
Others will be able to join me. Once the ride is established, I’ll start tweeting about it and letting people know the details and what kind of progress I’m making. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a bike!

Will RHoBH be filming your ride?
No, I think this will something separate. It’s just something I’m doing for myself, not for the show.

Last question, it’s been in the news that you recently buried your husband, Russell, nearly a year after his death. Has that helped you find closure with what happened?
You know, there have been some big milestones. Getting past the first year has been a big hurdle. I think it’s all the more reason I need to be exercising and focusing on staying healthy and well. I’m a single mom now and I need to be in the best shape I can be. I owe that to my daughter.
