Awkwardly for Kristen, a month ago — not long before the scandal broke — she sat down with Entertainment Weekly and opened up about not wanting to be fake or phony.
"I’ve never been able to fully form this thing, this persona, that some people are so f—ing good at," she explained with her usual brand of eloquence. "I don’t like people like that ... I care way more about the people standing in the room. I don’t want anyone leaving and saying, 'God, that girl is so fake.'"
Of course, this has led some Kristen haters to call her a hypocrite, since she lied about her affair, which could be read as fake.
But we disagree. While we don't condone Kristen's cheating (obviously), we do admire how straightforward she's been since the affair went public. She issued a public and seemingly heartfelt apology about it almost right away, and she hasn't been afraid to let the world see her heartbreak and shame. She may be a cheater, but she's honest about her mistakes.
What do you think: Do Kristen's comments make her a hypocrite in retrospect, or is she still as genuine as ever?
