In Lauren, Troian plays a soldier who was brutally sexually assaulted by her fellow soldiers. Based on the first episode, which premiered on Monday August 13, it's not an easy series to handle, in large part because of Troian's chilling performance. The first episode revolves around Lauren's commanding officer, played by Jennifer Beals, trying to convince her that pressing charges isn't worth it — a circumstance that is all too real for many victims of sexual assault.
Celebuzz chatted with Troian about the role, and she explained that she was immediately drawn to the script because it is such an important issue: "I felt very honored to be able to play one of these stories."
Troian also said that filming Lauren was a different experience than PLL, because while PLL deals with a lot of dramatic plots, it's set in "a very bizarre sort of Lynchian world," whereas Lauren deals with a situation that's "very, very high stakes and the real stakes of the Afghanistan war and a female going through a horrific tragedy that unfortunately so many women in this world go through."
Not only is WIGS telling this story, but Troian tweeted that they are "is donating 50 cents to [The Service Women's Action Network] for every new YouTube subscriber."
