David Boreanaz: Booth and Brennan’s Relationship on Bones Changed Television
As Bones prepares to enter Season 8 this fall, star David Boreanaz (Booth) is taking a moment to look back at the contribution his show has made to the face of procedural TV.
From Law & Order to CSI, procedurals have always centered around a fascinating crime story. The characters, though they can be colorful, have often taken a back seat while the plot focused around the nitty gritty details of solving the crime.
Then Bones came along in 2005, and the chemistry-infused banter and will-they-or-won’t-they drama of Booth and Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) — how do we put this: unique? — relationship was thrust into the forefront. Plenty of other procedurals have since adopted a similar dynamic with their lead characters, but Bones feels to us like the one show that really pioneered the concept.
On August 14, David tweeted a photo of he and Emily’s cast chairs on set, writing, “Best duo in TV. Relationship changed procedure viewing 8 years ago. #Bones8”
Do you agree with David that B&B changed the course of procedural TV?
