Emmys 2012 Outstanding Host For Reality or Reality Competition Program: Cat Deeley Deserves to Win, and Here’s Why
As So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley has proven throughout the past nine seasons of FOX's beloved series, hosting a reality TV competition is no easy feat — especially when you've got two left feet. Cat has never been shy about her inability to dance, nor does she pretend to have extensive knowledge about the artform, but that's precisely what makes her so endearing. Not to mention her knock-out good looks.
But Cat is more than just a pretty face. Sure, half the reason we tune in to SYTYCD is to ogle her gorgeous gams as she sashays about the stage in designer ensembles we've only ever dreamed of, but underneath the flawless exterior is one exceptionally talented — and grossly underrated — lady.
As the 2012 Emmy race comes to a head, we're placing our bet on Cat for Outstanding Host, a category that has been dominated by Survivor's Jeff Probst since its inception in 2008. Curiously, Jeff is not among this year's nominees, and while some critics are calling it a snub, we see it as an opportunity to recognize the woman who brings the world's foremost artform to the TV sets of regular Americans week after week.
While Cat's fellow nominees are all masters of the craft in their own right — Tom Bergeron, Dancing With the Stars; Phil Keoghan, The Amazing Race; Ryan Seacrest, American Idol; and Betty White, Betty White's Off Their Rockers — none of them truly possess the full package. And we have no doubt the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will agree.
If you're not convinced, take a look at our Top 5 reasons Cat Deeley deserves to be riding the "Hot Tamale Train" at this year's Emmys:
1. Her Flawless Delivery Two words: Live television. It's not as easy as it looks.
While screw-ups are inevitable, pros like Cat Deeley are quick with the recovery, peppering their scripted interview questions with witty repartee and improvised wisecracks. Cat is a master of the ad-lib, and her adorable British accent is just an added bonus. 2. Her Late Start
Flashback to Season 1 of SYTYCD and the name Lauren Sanchez might ring a bell. Cat replaced Lauren as host in Season 2 — the same year we met contestant-turned-choreographer and multiple Emmy nominee Travis Wall — and despite her late start, she hit the ground running and hasn't looked back.
3. Her Effort
Prior to joining SYTYCD, Cat admits she didn't know the difference between a plie and a pirouette — but now, she speaks the language of dance as effortlessly as George Balanchine himself.
What other reality competition show requires an extensive knowledge of words that date back 18th century France? And what other host could you imagine mastering it so quickly? Ryan Seacrest? Don't make us laugh.
We can all pretend for a second that looks don't matter, but let's get real. Part of Cat's total-package appeal is her modelesque beauty, which is only enhanced by her stunning ensembles. Cat selects many of her on-screen looks, often mixing runway couture with vintage pieces and accessories, creating a style that screams fashion icon.
5. Her Commitment to Fans
To fully understand Cat's commitment to her legion of loyal fans, just take a quick peek at her Twitter feed. Cat's a busy woman, but she always makes time to upload pictures, live tweet, answer questions, and retweet fan love. Also, she posts lots of dog photos. Just saying.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live Sunday, September 23 on ABC. Are you rooting for Cat Deeley?
